The first is Fury, winner of the 2021 ‘Say it in 60 Seconds’ Composition Competition, set up by the Oxford Festival of the Arts. There’s an amazing and heartfelt live recording and video of this, by the phenomenal Brendan Ball of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, on the Bandstand section of the Virtual Venue page. The second piece is called ‘All You Need is…’, and is a musical portrayal of, literally, writing the word LOVE. The final phrase seems disjointed, can you see what it represents? Lastly, and hopefully to be played anywhere with a boomy acoustic, ‘Moods of Echoes. This is my favourite, a dynamic and spectacular use of overlaid sounds, and like ‘All You Need is…’, is written for Bb trumpet. Fury is for Eb or Piccolo. The three are not really a suite, but work best each on their own as solo pieces with three very different inspirations behind them.
